Apple Plans To Run iPhone OS On New Platforms; Any Guesses?

I only have one.... Apple TV.

I bet a dollar we will see an iPhone OS driven Apple TV platform within the next year. It is logical to consolidate to OSX (full Mac) and iPhone OS for their embedded products eliminating the Apple TV OS variant.

You could also bet we would then see the custom UI evolve on the Apple TV to be more like an iPad, and also support all the applications including Games on the Hi-Def TV.

Apple, how about allowing iPhone Apps to run on the Mac?

Dear Apple,

With all those great applications (and games) out there why not let the mac run them as well?

How about letting us use our laptop touchpads as a controller?

Think instant apps expansion for your platform!!!

Thanks, Shawn

Google Android vs the iPhone feels like an old familar battle

One of my co-workers showed up in my office today with his shinny new google android phone. I played around with it a fair bit and I much say I like the UI and the speed of the various applications. The time it takes for mobile safari and search boxes to become active on the iphone is painful. But I digress...

The android platform vs the iphone platform is starting to feel like a familiar battle. The battle between windows and OSX.

Let's see, OSX was the operating system that could. It didn't have all the fancy applications but it ran faster, and the core productivity applications were faster and better integrated into the core platform. Windows, had a million applications, and games but most of them were mediocre and were not well integrated into the core experience. Sound familiar?

Perhaps slow and steady will win the ultimate race here. Google might be in this battle for the long game, and in the fickle consumer market which is cell phones they might just have a better platform.

Nambu 1.1 .. Twitter unleashed for OSX

Yesterday Nambu unleashed version 1.1 of their new twitter client for OSX. Here is a quick review and some screen shots.

The good:

  • The new release supports a tweetdeck like multi column view which lets you see all of your twitter activity in one handy window.
  • You can now create groups.
  • Much faster then the 1.0 release.
  • Nice click through options on the users to see their profile and their tweets.
  • Much quicker then any of the AIR based applications.

Needs Improvement:

  • Groups are not working in the column view. (expect this will be fixed shortly).
  • Some of the services are not working right now. Friendfeed as an example.
  • The gray background for the tweet list is hard on the eyes. Color needs to change.
  • The profile pictures and text are a bit too big for my taste in the tweet list. Others millage might vary if you have higher resolution.
  • Group functionality needs a better way to add users. Maybe drag and drop in column view?

Overall it is an excellent improvement over 1.0. You can download it here: www.nambu.com.

And here are the screenshots.
